Make it Happen

I was at my desk listening to music while I worked and one of my favorite songs came on, "Make it Happen, by Mariah Carey." I absolutely love this song. It's so uplifting.

These are the lyrics:

Not more than three short years ago
I was abandoned and alone
Without a penny to my name
So very young and so afraid
No proper shoes upon my feet
Sometimes I couldn't even eat
I often cried myself to sleep
But still I had to keep on going
Never knowing if I could take it
If I would make it through the night
I held on to my faith
I struggled and I prayed
And now I've found my way

Chorus:
If you believe in yourself enough
And know what you want
You're gonna make it happen
Make it happen
And if you get down on your
knees at night
And pray to the Lord
He's gonna make it happen
Make it happen

I know life can be so tough
And you feel like giving up
But you must be strong
Baby just hold on
You'll never find the answers
if you throw your life away
I used to feel the way you do
Still I have to keep on going
Never knowing if I could take it
If I would make it through the night
I held on to my faith
I struggled and I prayed
And now I've finally found my way

I once was lost
But now I'm found
I got my feet on solid ground
Thank you Lord
If you believe within your soul
Just hold on tight
And don't let go
You can make it
Make it happen

Every time I hear this song it makes me feel good. I know that I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. I have my own relationship with God. I don't go to church the way I should, but I have faith and know that prayer has gotten me through some tough times. I'm still a work in progress. As Steve Harvey would say, "Don't trip, he ain't through with me yet."

I've struggled through some things, but never lost faith. I know that I play a role in how things work out. My decisions haven't always been the best, but you learn from your mistakes. My life is a lot better now. I'm happier than i've been in a long time. I just finished my novel and that has done a lot for my self confidence. I'm looking forward to what life has in store for me. I have a feeling it's going to be good. I'm just a strong black woman living day to day, trying to Make it happen.

Thank you. I'm trying. Sometimes it feels like i'm in shock. I just cannot believe I wrote a book. I've been dreaming about it so long that it doesn't seem real.

You're next! Then again, I could see you writing screenplays.

Congratulations on the book! When will it be out? Continue to "make it happen". I published my first novel this year and I know how you feel. The sky is the limit! If you can get through the novel, you can get through anything!

Thanks for visiting and congrats on your novel.

I'm in the editing stages right now so i'm not sure when the book will be out. I'm hoping I can get everything done within six months. Actually, my birthday is in March and it would be a wonderful present to see my book in print.

Oh, damn, that was my ish!! You know that us chicks that like to sing dig wailing on some Mariah!

I used to sing that song when I was mad, upset or trying to get over something, and tears would pop into my eyes at certain parts, that song has so much meaning for me.

I'm also moved to cry when I sing Hero (especially when it gets to that "hold on" part)...but don't you tell anybody! ;)

@ fitness diva - The song Hero got me through some stuff. I miss those kinds of Mariah songs. It seems like her songs have gotten more immature.

@ city home accessories - thanks for visiting, and thanks for the support.

@ shanita waters - I will definitely be emailing you. I read some of the first chapter of your next book and it was really good. I'm going to buy a copy of the first. Writers have to support one another.
