On this day

On this day
We celebrate the life of a man
Not a mere mortal
An angel
Sent here to save us
To save us from ourselves
Even those who didn't want to be saved
Those who thought they were the savior
That they deserved the "power"
On this day
We look back
On a life
A life that was cut short
Yet seemed so long
What an impact
For one man to have
Never violent
Always thoughtful
Extremely courageous
On this day
We think of the words
"I have a dream"
And feel as though our dreams
Can actually become reality
It seems as though
Anything is possible
If you have the audacity
To hope
On this day
We look to tomorrow
The day when it happens
We'll have a new President
A Black President
But not the Black people's President
He will truly be
The people's President
The realization of the dream
The dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: "We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men are created equal."
And even though
On this day
We know we're not there yet
It still feels as though
We're a little bit closer
I can feel it
We may not get there together
But we as a people
Will get to the promise land
On this day
I feel blessed
And for the first time in a long time
I am proud to be an American

martin luther king was turning into martin luther king x at the latter point of his life

he was getting a little too radical for our government
